Frequently Asked Questions

We spend 75% of our adult life earning a living at a place of employment. This time is spent with different individuals from every walk of life, religion, beliefs, values and interests. The employee is placed in a position to work together as a team member regardless of their life situations. They are expected to accomplish the objectives of the position reinforced by a salary.

During the course of this employment, disputes and conflicts may arise that effect the performance and ability for the employee or employer to fulfill the job expectations in their work environment. This is where mediation can perform a useful role.

The key factor for selecting a dispute resolution process is whether or not there is a potential for an ongoing relationship among the participants. The mediation forte is to work with disputes involving future relationships where there is real value in assisting the parties to expand their range of communication and problem solving skills.

Mediation is a process of intervention in a dispute or negotiation by an acceptable, impartial and neutral third party who has no authoritative decision making power. The mediator’s purpose and objective is to act as a facilitator who assists the disputing parties in voluntarily reaching their own mutually acceptable settlement to some or all the issues in dispute. A mediator utilizes a variety of skills to promote effective structured negotiation. A mediator maintains open channels of communication assisting the parties to move forward towards identifying, articulating the issues and encouraging the parties to create an alternative amicable resolution to the dispute.

Settleit is dedicated to helping individuals resolve conflict. We offer mediation around workplace issues: wrongful dismissal, sexual harassment, employee and employee disputes as well as employee and employer conflict. Mediation is also offered for community groups or individuals’ issues, civil estates and probate, construction liens and real-estate conflicts.
