Elaine Doucette graduated from York
University with a certificate in Dispute Resolution and has
been mediating since September 2002. She also brings with
her a BA and MSW in social work.
Elaine’s 20 years of service
and experience working in a unionized labour force, five of
those years involved as a shop steward for CUPE local, have
contributed towards her critical understanding of the daily
challenges people face in their lives. She has also been involved
in arbitrations and negotiations for CUPE local.
Elaine’s past volunteering
efforts for the Scarborough Distress Center and Peer Trauma
Emergency Response Unit with the TTC, as well as her life
skills training allow her to comfortably handle difficult
situations and customers on a daily basis.
Elaine firmly believes
in a fair process. She believes a dispute is a conflict of
people’s interests, and that mediation will help people
understand their own interests, in addition to providing an
agreement that both parties can live with. Elaine prides herself
on being impartial, unbiased and non-judgmental, and believes
that people must work and live together in a conflict free
environment. Her style of mediation can best be described
as directive/facilitator, with a goal towards transformational
results (an opportunity for growth), building long term relationships,
understanding how the conflict arose, and developing an amicable
resolution.
